Huntington, NY
Boilers, water heaters and the small jobs too.
JHMoran Plumbing and Heating keeps Huntington homes warm and dry. Keith handles boiler maintenance and repair, hot water heaters, leaks, toilets and shower cartridges, with neat, efficient work.
One line runs through it.
From the boiler in the basement to the drip in the upstairs shower. Big repairs and small jobs get the same careful work.
Boiler maintenance
Regular care so the heat comes on when the cold does.
Boiler repair
Finding why the boiler is not heating, and fixing it right.
Heat emergencies
No heat in winter is urgent. Call first. After-hours availability to confirm with JHMoran.
Hot water heaters
Repairs and replacements when the hot water runs cold or the tank leaks.
Leaks
Tracking down drips and leaks before they turn into water damage.
Toilets
Running, rocking, clogging or leaking toilets put back in order.
Shower cartridges
A worn cartridge causes drips and odd temperatures. A swap often fixes both.
Small jobs
The little things on your list are welcome, not an afterthought.
Five quick checks before you call.
Some no-heat calls come down to a dead thermostat battery or a switch someone flipped. Walk through these and you will either fix it or know exactly what to tell Keith.
General guidance only, not professional advice for your system. Every boiler is different. If anything looks wrong or you are unsure, stop and call. Sample feature in this concept.
Check 1 of 5
Thermostat
- Is it set to Heat, not Cool or Off?
- Is the set temperature a few degrees above the room?
- Blank screen? Try fresh batteries.
Check 2 of 5
Breaker and boiler switch
- Look for a tripped breaker labeled boiler or burner and reset it once.
- Find the boiler's service switch, often red, near the stairs or boiler. Make sure it is on.
- If the breaker trips again, leave it off and call.
Check 3 of 5
Pilot or ignition
- If your boiler has a viewing window, is there a flame or a pilot light?
- Some boilers have a reset button. Press it once only. Repeated resets can flood the burner.
- Only relight a pilot if the label on your boiler gives instructions and you are comfortable. Otherwise, call.
Check 4 of 5
Pressure gauge
- Hot water boilers have a gauge on the front or on the pipes.
- Note the reading. Many home systems sit somewhere around 12 to 15 psi when cool, but check your boiler's label.
- Very low, or close to 30 psi? Do not adjust it yourself. Call and tell Keith the number.
Check 5 of 5
Water level (steam boilers)
- Steam boilers have a small glass tube on the side showing the water level.
- It is often around halfway. Empty or full to the top means something needs attention.
- Never add water to a hot boiler that has run dry. Turn it off and call.
All five checked
Time to call Keith.
You have ruled out the easy stuff, and that helps. When you call, mention what you saw: the thermostat setting, the pressure reading, and whether there was a flame.
Heat is back. Nice work.
If the same problem keeps coming back, it is worth having the boiler looked at before the next cold snap.
